Pattaya police rescued an 89 year old Russian woman trapped on the third floor of a burning four-storey townhouse on Phratamnak Road at around 3pm today.
Officers from Pattaya City Police Station, led by Police Lieutenant Wuttikorn Plodprong, responded to reports of a fire at house No. 338/9. On arrival, they found flames on the fourth floor with dense black smoke filling the building.
Five fire trucks from the Pattaya Municipal Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division arrived alongside rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation. The blaze was brought under control after more than 30 minutes.
Officers made their way through the smoke to the third floor, where they found the Russian woman suffering from smoke inhalation. She was handed to rescue workers for first aid before being taken to Pattaya City Hospital, where she is now in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The house owner, 78 year old Nontip Dihtayaphuniwat, told officials that nine people normally live at the property, but only three were present at the time. She said she noticed a burning smell and smoke on the third floor and sent a worker upstairs, where the flames were discovered on the fourth floor.
Nontip said there were no open flames or discarded materials that could have started the fire. An investigation is being led by Police Lieutenant Itthiphon Tangchuthawit of Pattaya City Police Station, with a forensic team set to conduct a full examination once the area is cleared. Investigators believe an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire, reported The Pattaya News.
