The drama is adapted from Xi Xing’s novel “Chu Hou / 楚后”. It tells the story of Chu Zhao, a general’s daughter, who chooses to take the initiative to change her fate of becoming a sacrifice on the path to power of Xiao Xun, the prince of the Chu kingdom. In her struggle against fate, she meets Xie Yanlai, an illegitimate son of the Xie family, and influences his life. She helps him rise from a lowly royal guard to a great general defending the nation. Together, they stop Xiao Xun’s plans. When she has a chance to escape the chaos, she sees the suffering of the people in the war and decides to return to the city, supporting the young royal grandson Xiao Yu as emperor until he can rule on his own. Later, Xiao Xun brings foreign enemies to invade. Chu Zhao and Xie Yanlai lead the army into battle, resolving both internal and external threats to the Chu kingdom.

Synopsis

Together, Chu Zhao and Xie Yanlai successfully stop Xiao Xun’s ambitions and plans. On her way to escape the troubled land, she sees the suffering of ordinary people caught in the war. She resolutely returns to the city and helps the young royal grandson Xiao Yu ascend the throne, staying until he can govern himself.
However, Xiao Xun brings foreign enemies to invade, willing to plunge millions into disaster for power and greed. Chu Zhao joins hands with Xie Yanlai, leads the army in bloody battle, and finally frees the Chu kingdom from internal and external crises.
In the end, Chu Zhao not only changes her own fate but also spares countless ordinary people in Chu from the suffering of war and displacement.
