Kaizer Chiefs fans are in two minds about several key first-team players at the club. Where can they improve?
Petersen to sign a new Kaizer Chiefs contract
According to Goal, Kaizer Chiefs are readying a new deal for goalkeeper Brandon Petersen. The 31-year-old has been the club’s undisputed number one this term, making 22 appearances in the league. Reliable sources indicate that the two parties have aligned on a fresh two-year agreement, which includes an option to extend for another year. Some fans online believe that upgrading options in the goalkeeping department should be a priority for the board.
CAF qualification in the bag for Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs clocked up five consecutive wins between 15 March and 15 April to put them in a strong position. Their last 10 matches have returned six wins, three draws, and just a solitary defeat. That’s ultimately enough to secure third place and CAF Confederation Cup football for next season.
Remember Khama Billiat?
It feels like a helluva long time since Billiat was at the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town. 24 goals and 29 assists in 126 games was Billiat’s somewhat paltry return as a Kaizer Chiefs player. Those numbers, as well as his lack of accolades at Naturena, paled in comparison to what he achieved with Mamelodi Sundowns. At Chloorkop, he bagged 48 goals and 43 assists in 144 appearances, by far Billiat’s best strike ratio throughout his career. 0.34 goals per game is a respectable goal-scoring rate for a man who operated mainly in wide areas or behind a conventional striker, and this was most certainly the peak of Billiat’s career from a personal and physical perspective. He also scooped three Betway Premiership titles and the 2015 CAF Champions League in a glittering five-year spell with Masandawana.
