MANILA, Philippines — A total of 1,164 out of the 1,186 voting centers, or 98.14 percent, in the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections were now open as of 11 a.m. on Monday, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a press briefing in Camp Crame, PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co noted that only 22 polling centers in Basilan had yet to begin voting as of this writing.

The PNP is still validating for what reasons voting had yet to start in the 22 remaining centers, Co added.
He further noted that it was “premature” to conclude that the areas in which voting centers had yet to open would indicate a failure of elections.
“It’s too early to tell,” Co stressed.
Some 2.39 million voters in BARMM are set to troop to voting centers across the region to vote for 80 seats in its regional parliamentary.
While regular voting was expected to begin at 7 a.m., some areas reported delays.
Earlier, the PNP said 1,045 of the 1,186 voting centers in BARMM had opened as of 8 a.m.
It also previously noted earlier pronouncements that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) had taken control of Cotabato City following a purported explosion and a shooting incident; and Maluso town in Basilan after reports of allegedly pre-shaded ballots. /jpv
