MANILA, Philippines — More than 5,000 election results (ER) were logged by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday for the historic Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary elections.
As of 12:30 a.m., the polling body received 5,017 ERs, or 96.25 percent of the expected 5,212 turnout.
Early Monday, Sept. 14, the regular voting for the first-ever parliamentary elections in the region began at 7 a.m. and ended at 7 p.m.
Some areas, such as in Al-Barka, Basilan, extended the voting period by two hours, or until 9 p.m. on Monday.
This came after an armed group, identified as part of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s political faction, stopped the delivery of election paraphernalia across all 16 barangays in the municipality of Al-Barka, according to the Philippine Army.

Meanwhile, the elections in Maluso, Basilan will resume at 7 a.m. on Tuesday after compromised ballots were found.
Based on Comelec’s data, around 2.393 million registered voters in BARMM are expected to cast their ballots for 80 members in its first parliamentary seat. /cb
