MANTICAO, Misamis Oriental – Member of Parliament Abdullah Macapaar, popularly known as Commander Bravo of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), has commended the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for helping make the recent Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections peaceful and successful.
In a letter on Wednesday, Macapaar lauded NBI Director Melvin Matibag for listening to MILF concerns, which helped create a meaningful channel for dialogue ahead of Monday’s historic parliamentary elections.
“When we sought to be heard, you chose to listen and to engage. Your presence in Mindanao on September 10, 2026, and your meetings with leaders and stakeholders from the MILF, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) helped bridge differences, clarify concerns, and open the way for greater understanding and cooperation,” Macapaar’s letter to Matibag read.

Mohajirin Ali, secretary general of the MILF’s United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), also expressed appreciation to the NBI director “for the opportunity to meet and speak with you, together with Commander Bravo, at the Laguindingan Airport on September 10.”
“I am grateful for the time you gave us to discuss the situation on the ground in the lead-up to the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election, particularly the developments and concerns in Central Mindanao,” Ali’s letter stated.
In a statement from the NBI sent to the Inquirer, Matibag said the agency went to Mindanao on September 10 “to conduct peace dialogues and coordination meetings with key leaders and stakeholders from the MILF, PNP, and AFP.”
“The engagement stemmed from a request by the MILF and other stakeholders for the NBI to serve as an intermediary between the parties—to help patch up differences, bridge gaps, and serve as a catalyst for collaboration toward a peaceful election,” Matibag said. /coa
