Thailand weather today, 29 September: heavy rain in 22 provinces, Bangkok showers

The Thai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain in 22 provinces today. The North, the Central region, the East and the South are among the worst-hit areas. Bangkok can expect scattered thundershowers, with lows of 24-26°C and highs of 31-33°C.

The department has warned residents in the North, the Central region and the East to watch for flash floods. Overflows and landslides are also possible, particularly along waterways near foothills and in low-lying areas. A low-pressure cell over the Gulf of Martaban has shifted to the middle coast of Myanmar. A moderate southwest monsoon continues to affect the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand.

Bangkok

The capital expects scattered thundershowers throughout the forecast period. Lows of 24-26°C and highs of 31-33°C are likely. Southerly winds of 10 to 25km/h are expected.

North

Scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rain are forecast for Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Lamphun. Lampang, Phrae, Sukhothai and Tak face the same conditions. Lows of 22-25°C and highs of 29-34°C are expected, with easterly winds of 10 to 20km/h.

Northeast

Loei, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima and Buri Ram expect scattered thundershowers. Lows of 23-24°C and highs of 30-34°C are forecast. Easterly winds of 10 to 20km/h are expected across the region.

Central

Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani and Suphan Buri face scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rain. Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi expect the same conditions. Lows of 22-25°C and highs of 30-34°C are forecast, with southerly winds of 10 to 20km/h.

East

Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri and Chon Buri expect scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rain. Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat face the same outlook. Lows of 22-25°C and highs of 29-33°C are expected. Southwesterly winds of 20 to 35km/h are forecast, with waves of 1-2 metres, above 2 metres in thundershowers.

South (east coast)

Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat expect scattered thundershowers. Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat face the same conditions. Lows of 22-25°C and highs of 31-36°C are forecast. Southwesterly winds of 15 to 35km/h are expected, with waves of 1-2 metres, above 2 metres in thundershowers.

South (west coast)

Ranong, Phang Nga and Phuket expect scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rain. Lows of 23-26°C and highs of 31-36°C are forecast for the area. Southwesterly winds of 15 to 35km/h are expected. Waves of 1-2 metres are forecast, above 2 metres in thundershowers.

Warnings

Residents in the North, the Central region and the East should be alert to flash floods. Overflows and landslides remain a risk near waterways, foothills and lowlands. Ships operating in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand should proceed with caution. They should steer clear of thundershowers. Moderate winds and waves persist over the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf.
