Dream to You Episode 2 Review: The Past Finally Explains Yi-jae’s Pain

Dream to You Episode 2 Review

Two Dreamers Who Inspired Each Other

We have flashbacks helping us out to figure out what’s going on. We have flashbacks showing how deeply Yi-jae and Soo-bin influenced each other. Yi-jae encourages Soo-bin to embrace filmmaking despite his father pressuring him to focus on medicine. Likewise, Soo-bin motivates and believes in Yi-jae’s talent as a storyteller.

Their shared dream of directing a film together binds them. Watching them write scripts and celebrate each other’s wins shows why their separation feels hurtful. The series also shows the couple’s family situations. Soo-bin’s father sees filmmaking as a distraction from a respectable medical career, while Yi-jae struggles to preserve the videotapes and creative memories that her own mother dismisses as clutter.

For both teenagers, filmmaking isn’t simply a hobby; it’s their dream.

The Chemistry Continues to Shine

In the present, both Hwang In-yeop and Hyeri’s chemistry works perfectly. When Soo-bin goes to Yi-jae’s workplace with flowers, it shows his confidence. Meanwhile, Yi-jae stays away from him as she doesn’t want the playful tension.

One amazing scene is during the radio interview where Soo-bin openly admits to his upcoming movie, Gyeongseong Love Song, which directly hints at Yi-jae. She immediately grabs his collar before ripping his shirt to cover the moment. It is both hilarious and undeniably romantic. Even the scene where she stitches his buttons shows she still has feelings for him, but the anger overpowers them.

Soo-bin Wants Redemption, But Is It Enough?

When the two confront over the unfinished screenplay, Yi-jae demands 30 million won if Soo-bin wants to buy it. However, he refuses. Rather, he says that the film won’t make any sense if both of them don’t work together. He even tells Yi-jae that he wants to return the dream he stole from her.

It’s a complicated confession, but can someone truly return a dream after ten years? Can an apology erase years of pain? This is where this episode plays a huge part. It refuses to give the viewers the answers. Yi-jae’s rejection feels legit, as we know her emotional wounds are too big to heal overnight.

The Flashback That Changes Everything

Finally, the flashback we all were waiting for arrives. After repeatedly visiting Soo-bin’s home to find out what’s going on, Yi-jae finally meets him one rainy day. He tells her that he’s leaving for America to pursue medicine and that he is chucking filmmaking entirely. The heartbreak doesn’t end there.

On her way home, Yi-jae is involved in a devastating car accident that leaves her hospitalised with a broken leg and head injuries. When she wakes up, she learns her father passed away while she was unconscious. Within a span of a few days, the guy she loved leaves her, the dream she built with him is over, her father is dead, and her body is physically crashing.

Suddenly, her bitterness in Episode 1 makes perfect sense. Soo-bin’s departure ruined everything for Yi-jae.

Final Thoughts

Episode 2 turns the funny storytelling into an emotional one. It gradually reveals the painful past between Yi-jae and Soo-bin. Though both had a genuine childhood with a shared dream, somewhere, somehow, their impulsive decisions made things worse. Their chemistry is absolutely electric both in the flashback scenes and the current one.

If the series continues balancing nostalgia with heartfelt character development this effectively, Dream to You could become one of the most rewarding romance dramas of the season.
