BARMM town councilor shot dead  on first day of election gun ban

COTABATO CITY An unidentified gunman shot dead a councilor of Kadayangan town in the Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The incident happened in Midsayap, Cotabato, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, the first day of the gun ban imposed in relation to the Sept. 14 BARMM parliamentary elections.

The Midsayap Municipal Police Station identified the victim as Kadayangan Councilor Nasser A. Dalandang, 37.

Dalandang was behind the wheel of his Toyota Hilux while waiting for his wife, who was buying medicine at a roadside drugstore along the national highway in Barangay Salunayan, Midsayap.

Two men riding in tandem on a motorcycle arrived, shot Dalandang at close range, and sped away, police investigators said.

Responding soldiers rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered empty .45-caliber pistol shells.

Police are still determining the motive behind the attack and the identities of the perpetrators.

Midsayap is not part of BARMM but is adjacent to the town of Kadayangan. /mcm
