A highway police officer allegedly fired more than 10 rounds at a fellow officer in Chachoengsao today, July 23, leaving the victim seriously injured after an alleged dispute over work.

Police and rescue workers were called to the Bang Khla Highway Police Public Service Unit in Bang Khla district after receiving reports of a shooting.

At the scene, they found Police Sub-Lieutenant Yutthaphong lying in the parking area with gunshot wounds below the chest, to the left arm and to the hip, with bullets lodged in his body. Despite his injuries, he remained conscious and was able to respond to rescuers before being transferred to a hospital.

Investigators said Police Senior Sergeant Major Phitsanu, the accused, remained at the scene after the shooting and waited to surrender.

The preliminary investigation found that both officers were assigned to the Bang Khla highway police service unit, where personnel rotate duty every 10 days. Yutthaphong was the supervisor of the service point, while Phitsanu had started his scheduled rotation at the unit that day.

According to police, both men had earlier had dinner with more than 10 fellow police officers at a restaurant in Plaeng Yao district. Investigators said the pair began arguing over a work-related issue while at the restaurant.

A witness told police she heard what sounded like an argument before several gunshots rang out. She looked outside through a window and saw Phitsanu and Yutthaphong at the scene.

Khaosod reported that police will collect evidence and interview witnesses before proceeding with legal action.
