The Thai Meteorological Department has issued Thailand weather forecast for today, August 15, warning of heavy rain in several regions and very heavy rain in the East over the next 24 hours.
A monsoon trough crossing Myanmar and upper North Thailand is feeding into a low pressure area over upper Vietnam. At the same time, a fairly strong southwest monsoon is blowing across the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The department has warned residents in affected areas to watch for accumulated rainfall that could trigger flash floods and forest runoff, particularly near foothills, waterways, and low lying areas. Riverbanks in the northeast are also at risk of overflowing.
Waves in the upper Andaman Sea are running high, reaching two to three metres, and more than three metres in thunderstorm areas. Sailors have been urged to navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorm zones, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea have been told to stay ashore.
North
Thunderstorms are expected across 60% of the region, with heavy rain in some areas of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, and Tak.
Temperatures will range from 23 to 28 degrees Celsius (°C) at the low end to 32 to 35°C at the high end, with southwest winds of 10 to 20 kilometres an hour.
Northeast
Thunderstorms will cover 60% of the region, with heavy rain in some areas of Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani.
Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C to a high of 33 to 35°C, with southwest winds of 10 to 20 kilometres an hour.
Central
Thunderstorms will affect 40% of the region, with heavy rain in some areas of Saraburi and Kanchanaburi.
Temperatures will range from 25 to 27°C to a high of 34 to 36°C, with southwest winds of 10 to 25 kilometres an hour.
East
Thunderstorms will cover 60% of the region, with heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok and Prachinburi, and very heavy rain in some areas of Chanthaburi and Trat.
Temperatures will range from 25 to 28°C to a high of 31 to 34°C, with southwest winds of 20 to 35 kilometres an hour. Sea waves will reach about two metres, rising above two metres in thunderstorm areas.
South East Coast
Thunderstorms will affect 40% of the region, mostly in Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Yala, and Narathiwat.
Temperatures will range from 23 to 26°C to a high of 33 to 35°C, with southwest winds of 20 to 35 kilometres an hour. Sea waves will reach one to two metres near the coast and about two metres further out, rising above two metres in thunderstorm areas.
South West Coast
Thunderstorms will cover 60% of the region, with heavy rain in some areas of Trang and Satun.
Temperatures will range from 24 to 28°C to a high of 32 to 34°C. From Phang Nga northward, southwest winds will reach 20 to 40 kilometres an hour, with sea waves of two to three metres, rising above three metres in thunderstorm areas. From Phuket southward, southwest winds will reach 15 to 35 kilometres an hour, with sea waves of one to two metres, rising above two metres in thunderstorm areas.
Bangkok and Vicinity
Thunderstorms will cover 60% of the region, with heavy rain in some areas.
Temperatures will range from 26 to 27°C to a high of 33 to 35°C, with southwest winds of 10 to 25 kilometres an hour.
Sea Conditions
The upper Andaman Sea will see waves of two to three metres, rising above three metres in thunderstorm areas. Small boats have been advised to stay ashore, and larger vessels should avoid thunderstorm zones.
