The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather forecast for Tuesday, August 18. It comes alongside a separate warning of heavy to very heavy rain running through August 21 across the upper North and upper Northeast.

A monsoon trough lies across upper Laos and into a low-pressure cell over upper Vietnam. A strong southwest monsoon continues to sweep the Andaman Sea, mainland Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

TMD has warned residents in the affected areas to watch for flash floods, forest runoff and overflowing riverbanks, particularly near foothills, waterways and low-lying land.

Wave heights in the upper Andaman Sea are forecast at 2 to 3 metres, rising above 3 metres in thundery areas. Vessels in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are advised to navigate with caution and avoid thundery zones. Small boats in the upper Andaman have been told to stay ashore for now.
