War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time, an officially licensed tabletop game from Dire Wolf, is now set for release in 2027, giving Robert Jordan’s fantasy universe a brand-new way to return to and for the fans. The announcement comes at a particularly interesting time for the franchise, as this is not just one random game appearing after a cancelled TV show. It is part of a much bigger attempt to expand The Wheel of Time beyond the version audiences knew on Prime Video, and honestly, after how the show ended, this feels strangely fitting.

The Wheel of Time 2027 Release: The Prime Video Era Might Be Over, But Not The Story

Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time premiered in 2021 with Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred and a very ambitious task of turning Robert Jordan’s fantasy saga into television. The series ran for three seasons, with its final episode in April 2025.

The cancellation came before the adaptation could finish Jordan’s story, despite Season 3 being critically regarded as its strongest season. The live-action version ended after three seasons, leaving a large part of the original saga untouched.

This adds to why the 2027 announcement feels less like a comeback for that show and more like a reminder that The Wheel of Time itself is bigger than an adaptation.

There is no Season 4 of Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time series announced to be coming in 2027. The live-action adaptation was cancelled after three seasons, and the new release of 2027 should not be confused with the renewal of the series itself.

Season 3 had taken Rand deeper into his identity as the Dragon Reborn, brought the Aiel storyline into sharper focus, and left some major characters on paths that could have opened into some of the biggest material from the book.

Perhaps That Is Not the End We Should Focus On Right Now
