Blood Sacrifice Ending Explained
Who is the killer in Blood Sacrifice?
Through several trials and errors, Thomas eventually realises that the real killer he’s after is none other than Peter Johansson. Although he had previously thought that another police officer, Anders Palm, was the person to blame and had arrested him for it, the truth finally comes out thanks to the intuition and fantastic police work of Max Abrahamsson, who followed a hunch against everyone’s advice and landed right at Peter’s home. Unfortunately, he faced the consequences of this rash action by losing his life, but it’s his expansive detective work that eventually helped the police to find Peter quickly.

Peter, meanwhile, was killing police officers after he lost his partner Hugo Brankovic during a call gone wrong. Although he had called for backup, shoddy police work and corruption thanks to Lucas Lind resulted in him becoming the scapegoat and getting suspended, while also losing a dear friend. Consumed by rage and realising that no one is looking out for Hugo other than him, he decided to take matters into his own hands and created this elaborate plan to get the vengeance that he thought he deserved.
The series takes time to create an elaborate backstory to drive home the fact that the murders aren’t random or anything crazy; there’s planning and a lot of emotions behind Peter’s actions, which, although very illegal and immoral, has logic in his own mind.
How does Peter lure the police officers?

Thomas and Natalie figure out quite early on in the runtime that the killer was using voice recordings of previous victims to lure officers out, whom he would then ambush. Peter uses these recordings, sometimes multiple times, to dial 112 and get officers out to help. Believing the call to be genuine, they find themselves taken by surprise when they are then attacked by Peter. This also creates a pattern that connects all the officers. Although it’s difficult at first not to respond to a call, once Thomas and the others figure out the pattern, it becomes easy for them not to fall into Peter’s traps.
How do Alfred and Thomas realise who the killer is?

Alfred and Thomas initially are quite certain that the killer is a cop when, on one Friday night, they call a meeting of all cops around the precinct, and that’s when a new murder doesn’t take place. However, the exact name comes to them differently; while Thomas follows Max’s investigation, Alfred stumbles upon Carl Larsson’s Midvinterblot and pieces together why the murders are happening in the first place.
Why is Peter after Alfred?
The truth comes out in episode 5 when Lucas tells Thomas the truth about Peter’s past. Peter had pieced together that Alfred was working with Lucas on the night of Hugo’s murder but didn’t know that it was Lucas who dropped the ball on the 112 call, which ultimately resulted in Hugo’s death. He even went as far as to scrub the evidence and turn Peter into a scapegoat, and thus the truth never came out. Peter, not knowing this, wants vengeance by killing Alfred, holding him responsible for everything that happened to him.
What does Carl Larsson’s Midvinterblot mean?

Carl Larsson’s Midvinterblot is a famous and controversial Swedish painting that depicts a sacrificial scene from Norse mythology. It showcases the fictional King Domalde sacrificing himself at the Temple of Uppsala to bring back good harvests to his people. The painting depicts taking responsibility when something bad happens under someone’s supervision. Taking this to heart, Peter uses the painting’s message in his own twisted way, which helps describe the meaning of the Netflix series as well. Peter believes that Alfred was responsible for Hugo’s death, and since he was their leader, he should take responsibility.
What happens to Thomas and Peter?
Peter ends up kidnapping Alfred and luring Thomas and other police officers to where Hugo was initially murdered. However, the father-son duo eventually realises what he’s planning and stops anyone else from responding to Peter’s 112 call. A scuffle eventually ensues between Thomas and Peter, at the end of which both of them fall from the condo’s balcony. We eventually see that Alfred and Thomas are both alive and in the hospital, while Peter is arrested.
What does the Blood Sacrifice ending mean?

The ending showcases justice, guilt and revenge being explored through both Peter and Thomas & Alfred’s storyline. Peter’s sense of justice results in mindless retaliation that victimises even more innocent cops who are just doing their job. However, in a twisted way, his frustration is also proven to be correct thanks to Lucas’s confession. There was always a leader who was corrupt and didn’t protect his subordinates; Peter was just incorrect about who that was.
The ending, thus, has an emotional twist to it. While it resolves the serial killer mystery, there’s a bittersweet ending here that makes you feel hopeless. It explores how a buried secret from the past can affect the present so violently, and thus, it’s better for those responsible to face the consequences of their actions when the injustice happens.
