More than 3,900 square kilometres across Sukhothai, Phitsanulok and neighbouring provinces are at high risk of flooding, according to data released by the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) today, August 21.

In Sukhothai, high-risk areas cover large parts of the central and southern sections of the province. The risk extends across Sawankhalok, Si Samrong, Mueang Sukhothai and Kong Krailat districts, as well as parts of Si Satchanalai district in the north.

In Phitsanulok, extensive high-risk areas were identified across central and western parts of the province. GISTDA said the water mass extends from Sukhothai into Phrom Phiram, Bang Rakam and Mueang Phitsanulok districts, as well as parts of Wat Bot district.

Areas classified as either high risk, marked in red, or low risk, marked in yellow, also extend across provincial boundaries into parts of Uttaradit, Phichit and Kamphaeng Phet.

GISTDA said its satellite data is updated in real time, allowing changes in the direction and spread of water to be monitored and helping government agencies and residents prepare for possible flooding.

Residents in affected areas were advised to continue monitoring the situation around the clock.
