Spooky in Love Episode 12 Review

Ji-hwan Saves Yeo-ri as She Faces Death
Ji-hwan was an essential part of Yeo-ri’s life, and that showed. Yeo-ri falls victim to a massive accident, and it almost claims her life. She tries to save Kang-wook, which lands her in that situation. The accident leaves her unconscious and puts her in a coma. Things were so bad for Yeo-ri that she literally came close to dying. The episode even shows her walking towards the person who collects souls. However, in a way, Kang-wook’s love ends up saving Yeo-ri.
The only person Kang-wook thought could save Yeo-ri was Ji-hwan. So, he goes to Yeo-ri’s first love and prays to his soul to help him. And that prayer gets answered. We see Ji-hwan himself come to save Yeo-ri and tell her that all the souls she saved have gone to a better place because of her. The souls also thank Yeo-ri and help her find her way back to life.

Kang-wook Starts Suspecting the Truth Behind Yeo-ri’s Accident
Yeo-ri’s condition completely broke Kang-wook, and it only strengthened his love for Yeo-ri. When she regains consciousness, they discuss how Ji-hwan was the one who made the miracle happen. Not only that, but their bond also became stronger, with Kang-wook staying extremely worried about Yeo-ri throughout her recovery period. However, rather than their relationship, the question shifted to what really happened that night.
The accident did not seem like it was just an accident, and Kang-wook started to suspect that something was amiss.

Min-hwan Had Everything, Yet His Bitterness Destroyed Him
With the accident, it was apparent that Min-hwan had reached a point of no return. He had become a complete murderer by this point and would do anything and everything to gain what he thought he deserved. Sadly, he went through so much trauma in his life, and that turned him into a bitter person. However, this obviously did not mean he could do whatever he wanted.
First of all, we get to see how his mother never really differentiated between him and his brother. Even though Min-hwan was not her biological child, she loved him just as much as her own son. When Min-hwan’s grandmother wanted him gone, she defended him and reinforced the fact that he was also a part of their family. Thus, Min-hwan’s brother and mother actually loved him like their own. Yet, his bitterness became so potent that he could not handle their love and only became more obsessed with Yeo-ri, who was never interested in him in the first place.

The Story Had So Much More Potential
This episode obviously ended on a classic positive note. The way it ended was also very obvious; at the end of the day, evil will get punished. I was not at all surprised by how things resolved, yet I did expect somewhat more from a premise that was so promising in the very beginning. The ghostly elements could have been explored a bit more, and the story could have been given a little more time to breathe properly.
It almost felt like, because they had nothing else to show anymore, they just decided to end it.
Final Thoughts
One of the best fleshed-out characters from this series was hands down Min-hwan. His character was the most interesting and complex one, and it was genuinely entertaining to watch him. The relationship between Kang-wook and Yeo-ri progressed very nicely, and the actors themselves did a pretty good job of portraying their characters. But I think it was the writing where things lacked a bit and were boring. Other than that, this is a decent rom-com that you can definitely enjoy.
