A Russian man intervened in a dispute in Pattaya and slapped an Indian national who was reportedly threatening a Thai fruit vendor following a parking dispute.

Footage of the incident went viral on Thai social media, showing chaos on Phra Tamnak Road in southern Pattaya at about 3.20am yesterday, August 23. The incident reportedly occurred near VC Hotel.

In the footage, an Indian man wearing a dark blue shirt and red trousers can be seen arguing with a foreign man reportedly from Russia. The argument quickly escalated into a physical altercation when the Russian man, wearing a black shirt, slapped and kicked the Indian man in the face.

Several Thai women, believed to be bar workers, attempted to separate the two men but were initially unsuccessful.

The altercation continued until the Indian man fell to the ground. Witnesses eventually separated the two men, after which the Russian man returned to his yellow car.

According to 50 year old fruit vendor Urai, she had asked the Indian man to move his motorcycle because he had parked in a prohibited area.

Urai said the Indian man refused to move the motorcycle and instead approached her while shouting vulgarities at her. She said she asked him to move away and left the area, but he continued behaving in a threatening manner.

Urai said the Russian man, who had been driving past in his car, stopped to intervene and help her before the confrontation escalated further, as shown in the footage.

According to Urai, the Indian man later returned to her stall and apologised. Police were also called to the scene to investigate. Urai said officers warned the Indian man not to threaten local people in the area.

Urai also described another incident at her fruit stall that was previously captured in viral footage, showing her and another Thai woman fighting with a foreign woman.

Urai claimed that the foreign woman was drunk and had provoked the confrontation. She said she acted in self-defence.

Local news agencies reported that similar confrontations had occurred at the location several times before. Some reports suggested that parking disputes may have contributed to the incidents, with the fruit vendor allegedly preventing people from parking near her stall.

Urai denied the allegation, saying she had never prevented motorists from parking in the area. She added that taxi and baht bus drivers regularly parked nearby.

The reports did not provide details of any legal action taken against the people involved in the latest confrontation.
