A Thai father slapped a sedan driver and falsely blamed the victim for an accident in which his wife accidentally dropped their son from a motorcycle onto a road in Bangkok on Saturday, August 22.
Footage of the incident was shared by the Facebook page “อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้ รีเทริน์ part 7” on Saturday. The video shows the boy standing on the footrest in front of his mother as she rode the motorcycle before he suddenly fell onto the road, narrowly avoiding the wheels of a black sedan.
The mother immediately picked up her son while another woman who had witnessed the incident approached to check on him. The boy was seen crying after the fall.
The boy’s father, who was travelling on another motorcycle, then approached the sedan and reportedly slapped Lapit in the face through the open car window.
According to Channel 7, the incident occurred on Soi Phatthanakan 20 in Suan Luang district, Bangkok, about 500 metres before a right turn towards On Nut Road and near a crowded market.
Lapit told the media that he was driving slowly through the alley when he heard shouting and a sound similar to a collision. He pressed the brake but did not see any damage to his car and did not believe he had hit anything.
Someone then told Lapit to reverse, which he did. He subsequently realised that a child had fallen from a motorcycle and had nearly been run over by his car.
Lapit said the boy’s father ran towards him and struck him in the face through the open car window. He did not retaliate and instead got out of the car to calmly explain that he had not realised what had happened.
The two parties later went to Khlong Tan Police Station. According to the police report, the boy’s parents had been riding separate motorcycles, with the father travelling ahead and the mother following with their son.
The mother later attempted to pass Lapit’s car and realised that her own riding had caused her son to fall. Lapit said he told her not to worry as long as the child was safe.
Lapit did not pursue the matter further but filed a police report for the record. He said he felt sorry for the child after watching the footage of the Bangkok motorcycle accident.
The child’s father admitted slapping Lapit, saying he acted out of anger and concern for his son’s safety. He said he believed Lapit would not have stopped if he had not intervened.
The father said the dispute between him and Lapit had since been resolved but did not reveal whether he had apologised to the sedan driver.
