CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) councils of Mamburao, the capital town in Occidental Mindoro, have united in opposing the continued postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), saying it is time to give a new generation of young leaders the opportunity to serve.

In a joint statement issued by the Mamburao SK Federation, the SK councils of the municipality’s barangays said they were “strongly” opposed to any further postponement of the BSKE.

“We, the Sangguniang Kabataan Councils of all barangays of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, stand united in respectfully expressing our strong opposition to the continued postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE),” the statement said.

The youth leaders acknowledged the trust placed in them by their constituents and said they remained committed to fulfilling their responsibilities.

However, they stressed that public service should also provide opportunities for new leaders to emerge and for other young people to serve their communities.

The statement framed the Mamburao SK position as a call for democratic leadership transition rather than a rejection of their responsibilities.

“Hindi ito pagtalikod sa tungkulin, kundi panawagan para sa demokratikong pagpapalit ng liderato at pagbibigay ng pagkakataon sa bagong henerasyon ng kabataan na makapaglingkod,” the SK federation said.

(We are not turning our backs to responsibility rather we appeal for a democratic transition of leadership that would give a new generation of leaders the opportunity to serve the public).

The statement was endorsed by SK councils from 15 barangays in Mamburao: Barangay Uno, Dos, Tres, Cuatro, 5, 6, 7, 8, Payompon, Tayamaan, San Luis, Fatima, Balansay, Tangkalan and Talabaan. INQ
