DASMARIÑAS CITY, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday extended the voting hours for the Dasmariñas City special elections until 5 p.m.
The extension came amid continuous heavy rain in due to the effects of the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

“Dahil sa matinding buhos ng ulan na nararanasan ngayon sa Dasmariñas City, Cavite pinalawig po ng Comelec ang voting hours para sa Special Congressional Elections hanggang 5 p.m. ng hapon ngayong Sabado,” said Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia in a social media post.
(Due to the heavy rainfall currently being experienced in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, the Comelec has extended the voting hours for the Special Congressional Elections until 5:00 p.m. this Saturday.)
The special polls is being held to elect a new congressional representative, replacing former lawmaker Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga, who was expelled by the House of Representatives last June 2 for disruptive and disorderly behavior.
Regular voting hours began at 7 a.m. and was supposed to end at 3 p.m.
Residents of Dasmariñas City will cast their votes to choose between five candidates, namely:
- Incumbent Dasmariñas City Mayor Jennifer Austria Barzaga
- Former vice mayor Raul Rex Del Rosario
- Former councilor Jacinto Bautista Frani Jr.
- Marvin Opamin Dupal-ag
- Leysander Aguilar
