Rain and thunderstorms to sweep across Gauteng this weekend

Gauteng residents can expect a wet and windy weekend, with showers and thunderstorms forecast to persist into Monday.

The province has experienced relatively mild weather this week, with a mix of cool to warm temperatures and occasional isolated showers. However, conditions are set to deteriorate over the weekend.

In Johannesburg, showers and a possible thunderstorm are expected on Saturday morning, before conditions improve slightly in the afternoon. Temperatures will reach a high of 21°C, dropping to around 12°C overnight.

Rainy conditions will continue into Sunday, with widespread showers expected throughout the day under cloudy skies. Temperatures will remain steady, peaking at 21°C, accompanied by light northerly winds.

Thunderstorms expected in Gauteng

In Pretoria, thunderstorms are forecast for Saturday, with temperatures climbing to a high of 23°C. Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, with a morning thunderstorm possible and a maximum temperature of 22°C.

While the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has not issued a warning for a cold front affecting Gauteng, temperatures are expected to remain in the low 20s into Monday, with further thunderstorms likely.

Meanwhile, two cold fronts are set to sweep across the Western Cape and Northern Cape from Friday through to Monday, bringing a spell of cold, wet, and windy weather.

The systems are expected to deliver widespread rainfall, along with a noticeable drop in temperatures across both provinces.

In Cape Town, daytime temperatures are forecast to reach around 16°C on Friday, with a 90% chance of rain.

Conditions will remain cool on Saturday, with similar maximum temperatures, although the likelihood of rainfall is expected to ease to around 30%.
