Pokémon Worlds 2027 Highly Anticipated As 2026 Curtains Fall

Pokémon Worlds 2027: The Pokémon World Championship 2026 are over, and Pokémon has not wasted a minute in telling what happens next. After three days of competition in San Francisco, the 2026 World Championship officially wrapped up on August 30, 2026.

The event brought together the world’s best competitive Pokémon players across Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon video games and Pokémon GO, with Sunday bringing the season to its final close. Then came the question fans most eagerly await an answer to: what is next?

Pokémon Worlds 2027

The Pokémon World Championship 2027 has now entered the conversation, with the new Championship Series already bringing some genuinely interesting changes to the table because 2027 is not just another year on the Pokémon calendar.

The formats are getting a makeover, shifting the spaces, and Pokémon Champions is becoming the foundation of competitive VGC. Championship Point awards and Best Finish Limits have been updated for the 2027 Championship Series. Thus, before the next season gets a plethora of information, here is everything to know about Pokémon Worlds 2027.

What Is the Pokémon World Championships?

If you know Pokémon mainly as the game you played after school or the cards you cried for in front of your parents at the market, the World Championships can sound like a serious version of that because it is.

The Pokémon World Championships are the highest level of competitive Pokémon bringing players from across the globe together through the Pokémon Championship Series and other official qualifying pathways.

This can be seen as the final destination of the competitive season: players spend months travelling to Regional Championships, International Championships and other qualifying events, collecting points and fighting for their spot on the global stage. The strongest players eventually make their way to Worlds, where they compete for the title of World Champion.

For 2027, the main World Championship lineup will centre on: Pokémon Trading Card Game; Pokémon VGC; Pokémon GO. The Pokémon UNITE Championship Series will no longer be a part of the Championship Series in the 2027 season.

Pokémon Worlds Is More Than Just a Tournament

This is probably the easiest thing to forget when looking at Worlds purely through the competitive lens, but it is not just a giant room full of people playing Pokémon.

The World Championships have become a huge celebration of the franchise itself, with competitive matches sitting alongside merchandise, community activities, Pokémon Centre experiences, side events and fan-focused programming.

The 2026 edition took it even further with Pokémon XP, a dedicated fan convention held alongside Worlds in San Francisco.

Pokémon Worlds 2026 Has Officially Closed

Pokémon Worlds 2026 took place in San Francisco from August 28 to August 30, 3036. The event marked the end of another Championship Series season and brought the best players from around the world together to compete across the featured games.

The final day, August 30, was Championship Sunday: the point where the various competitions reached their final matches and the newest champions were crowned, and with that, San Francisco’s chapter came to an end, which is why the next announcement feels so perfectly timed.

Pokémon Worlds 2027

The 2027 Pokémon World Championship will be held in Singapore, as reported by various media outlets.

Pokémon has already released extensive information about the 2027 Championship Series, while some Worlds-specific details do not seem to have rolled out yet. The 2027 World Championship will feature three main competitive titles: Pokémon TCG, Pokémon VGC, and Pokémon GO competitors.

 Pokémon TCG

THE Trading Card Game is where the players build decks, study the evolving metagame and spend a large amount of time deciding whether one particular card belongs in a 60-card list.

The strongest competitors eventually make their way to Worlds to battle for the TCG World Championship.

 Pokémon VGC

The Video Game Championship is the competitive  Pokémon video game scene. This is not a “casually playing through a  Pokémon adventure” scene; VGC is about carefully constructed teams, strategy, predictions and knowing when to make a move.

 Pokémon GO

Yes, Pokémon GO- many of us played on our smartphones has a World Championship with the bar raised.

The tournament will feature 3-on-3 team play, with teams formed from the pool of qualified players.

Pokémon UNITE Is Leaving Worlds

The one major absence from the 2027 lineup is Pokémon UNITE.

The official website has confirmed that “The Pokémon UNITE Championship Series will no longer be a part of the Championship Series in the 2027 season.” The website further mentions that a standalone in-person event is planned to take place in Japan with paid travel for the qualified teams.

How Do You Qualify for Pokémon World Championship 2027?

This is where the months of obsession start making sense: players compete throughout the Championship Series season at events including Regional Championships, Special Championships and International Championships.

These tournaments award Championship Points with players building their totals throughout the season.

The higher you finish, the more points you collect and eventually the leaderboard determines who gets to go to the Worlds. The 2027 season is also changing the Championship Point system, with Pokémon adjusting the awards and Best Finish Limits and aiming to give more Championship Points to competitors finishing lower down the standings at Regional and International Championships.

So, What Makes Pokémon World Championship 2027 Different?

The road to Worlds is getting built with VGC moving forward; Pokémon GO is turning its Worlds competition into a 3-3 battle while keeping individual qualifications; and UNITE is leaving the big room while being planned for a standalone event in Japan.

Championship Point system is changing, and International Championships are moving through different destinations before the season’s final destination.

The players change, strategies change, cards change, teams change, and sometimes the entire game changes and somewhere between the first Regional World Championship and the final World match, someone unexpected might even become the story. The 2026 chapter is now closed: San Francisco had its moment, trophies found homes, and Pokémon has already opened the doors to 2027.
