Thailand’s weather remains unsettled today, September 4, with widespread rain expected as the monsoon trough sits across the North and upper Northeast, feeding into a low-pressure cell over the Gulf of Tonkin. A moderate southwest monsoon is also active over the Andaman Sea, the mainland and the Gulf of Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned of isolated heavy rain across the country, with the upper North and western Northeast facing the heaviest downpours.
Winds and waves in the upper Andaman Sea are expected to remain moderate, with seas around 2 metres and above 2 metres during thundershowers. Ships in the area are advised to proceed with caution and avoid thunderstorm activity.
Separately, tropical depression Saudel, which had been tracking over Guangdong province in China, has weakened into an active low-pressure cell.
North Thailand
Scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are expected in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun, with isolated very heavy rain in Chiang Rai, Phayao and Nan. Temperatures will range from 22°C to 35°C, with southwesterly winds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
Northeast Thailand
Fairly widespread rain with isolated heavy falls is forecast for Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Sakon Nakhon, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et and Si Sa Ket. Isolated very heavy rain is possible in Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 34°C, with southwesterly winds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
Central Thailand
Scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are expected in Lop Buri and Saraburi. Temperatures will range from 25°C to 36°C, with southwesterly winds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
East Thailand
Scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast for Nakhon Nayok, Chanthaburi and Trat. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 35°C, with southwesterly winds of 15 to 35 kilometres per hour. Waves will reach 1 to 2 metres, rising above 2 metres during thundershowers.
South Thailand (East Coast)
Scattered thundershowers are expected, mainly in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 35°C, with southwesterly winds of 15 to 35 kilometres per hour. Waves will reach about 1 metre near the coast, 1 to 2 metres further offshore, and above 2 metres during thundershowers.
South Thailand (West Coast)
Scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast for Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 33°C. From Phuket northward, southwesterly winds of 20 to 35 kilometres per hour are expected, with waves around 2 metres and above 2 metres during thundershowers.
From Krabi southward, southwesterly winds of 15 to 35 kilometres per hour are expected, with waves of 1 to 2 metres and above 2 metres during thundershowers.
Bangkok
Scattered thundershowers are expected across the capital. Temperatures will range from 26°C to 35°C, with southwesterly winds of 10 to 25 kilometres per hour.
