MANILA, Philippines — Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad will remain the spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the West Philippine Sea following his retirement from military service, the Philippine Navy said on Saturday.
The Navy made the announcement as it honored Trinidad during his retirement ceremony last April 23 in Taguig City.
Trinidad is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Sambisig” Class of 1991.

“While Rear Admiral Trinidad formally retires from active military service, he will continue to serve as AFP spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea as a naval reservist, in recognition of the value of his continued voice, and as a demonstration of his sustained service and credibility in communicating the Armed Forces’ position on maritime issues,” the Navy said in a statement.
It recognized Trinidad’s “never-say-die” spirit.
Vice Admiral Jose Maria Ambrosio Ezpeleta cited Trinidad’s contribution to “bolstering public faith in our actions, as well as fortifying our country’s diplomatic messaging on the global stage.”

“Thank you very much to the men and women of the Philippine Navy. I would like to tell you, I will just be around the corner if you need assistance or help,” Trinidad said in the same statement.
Last May, he assumed the position of naval inspector general, succeeding Navy Capt. Francisco Cacho.
The Navy said that the position provides crucial insights into the current challenges and issues it is facing. /apl
