- The family of slain Uber driver Isaac Satlat says they are still in disbelief and fear the pain will deepen when they see him in a coffin.
- They plan to repatriate his body to Nigeria and have urged the public not to turn the matter into a Nigeria vs South Africa issue.
- Police have arrested three suspects so far and are still searching for a fourth.
The family of the slain Nigerian e-hailing driver has expressed their sorrow and how they’re still in disbelief that their son is no more.
The 22-year-old Uber driver, Isaac Satlat, was tortured and killed while in his vehicle on Wednesday. His body and his car were found by police in Atteridgeville, Pretoria on the very same day.
The family spokesperson was speaking to the media outside the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday, where court proceedings against the suspects are taking place.
“It’s unbelievable for them. I think they will be more broken when they see their son in a coffin. We intend to repatriate the body back home to Nigeria just so his siblings, mother and uncles can also find closure.
We must emphasise, we don’t want to make this a Nigeria vs South Africa tension. Let’s stay away from that,” said the family’s spokesperson, Solomon Izang Ashoms.
Gauteng police have since arrested two more suspects, following the arrest of a female suspect in this gruesome incident.
The two male suspects, who are aged 30 and 26, will join the third suspect, aged 25, who was arrested on Friday, 13 February 2026.
The perpetrators were seen on dash cam footage attacking the driver.
Police are still on the lookout for the fourth suspect.
