My Royal Nemesis Episode 9 Review: Moon-do’s Plan Falters as Se-gye and Seo-ri Stand Strong

My Royal Nemesis Episode 9 Review: Romance deepens between Se-gye and Seo-ri as buried feelings from a past life finally surface. The episode balances tender moments with light comedy. On the other hand, the antagonist Moon-do grows increasingly desperate as his grip over Se-gye begins to slip.

Does Se-gye confront Seo-ri?

Seo-ri firmly tells Se-gye that what he’s saying does not make sense and is nothing but a dream he saw. He also relents in the end that yes, it was indeed a dream, and it does not hold any meaning. In his last dream, we also see Seo-ri trying to ask Se-gye what was happening with them. Se-gye just tells her to do as the king directs.

There were many romantic moments in this episode. We also saw the jealous side of Se-gye, who decides to change the script because he didn’t want an intimate scene between Seo-ri and the actor of the show. However, this works in Seo-ri’s favour because she gets all the spotlight and becomes the main highlight. Se-gye also comes to meet her, and again, we see them being very affectionate to each other. However, when they later go on a date, Se-gye starts to bleed. Here we get to know that Se-gye would have to go through a dental surgery. Seo-ri stays by his side, and they discuss the dreams yet again.

What happened to Se-gye in the past?

Se-gye was banished in his past life. We also see that Seo-ri tried to run away with Se-gye but was stopped by Moon-do, who told her to survive. He also handed the dagger that Se-gye gave her to her as a token of her loyalty towards him.

Did Moon-do manage to banish Se-gye in this life as well?

No, something very surprising happens towards the end, where we see that Moon-do might be losing in this life. He becomes so desperate that he tries to threaten Se-gye into doing his bidding. However, as Se-gye and Seo-ri’s love is stronger than what Moon-do thinks. Hence, things do not go as he planned.

What worked and what did not work?

This episode stood out because it didn’t take the predictable route of Se-gye suddenly blaming Seo-ri or forcing unnecessary drama between them. There was no forced heartbreak arc or a stretch where Se-gye loses trust in her. At the same time, it was satisfying to see that the villain didn’t just get away with everything.
