The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) arrested a man in Saraburi on May 11 over a fake hotel booking scam that allegedly used copied hotel webpages to trick victims into transferring accommodation payments.
DSI officers and Nong Khae police arrested the suspect, Chinawat, outside a house in Nong Khae district, Saraburi province, at around 3.10pm. The arrest was made under Criminal Court warrant No. 728/2026, issued on February 6.
Chinawat is accused of joint fraud, fraud by impersonation, public fraud, and allowing others to use his bank account, electronic card, or e-money account despite knowing, or having reason to know, that it could be used in a technology crime.
Amarin TV reported that the case is being handled as a special case by the DSI’s Technology and Information Crime Division.
Investigators alleged that Chinawat was involved in creating fake webpages pretending to be pages of well-known hotels. Victims were allegedly deceived into transferring accommodation payments into Chinawat’s account.
The money was then allegedly passed to others in the network to avoid financial tracking. Investigators found more than 20 million baht had circulated through the account.
Officers informed Chinawat of the charges and his legal rights before recording his arrest and detention as required by law. He was later handed over to special case investigators for further legal proceedings.
Elsewhere, a luxury hotel in Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima, was targeted in a booking scam that affected more than 40 victims.
Fraudsters created a fake social media account impersonating MYS Khao Yai Hotel and used it to deceive guests into making bookings through the fake page instead of the official hotel account.
Police advised residents and travellers to be cautious when booking accommodation, noting that MYS Khao Yai was not the only hotel targeted by the hotel booking scam.
