Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2 Episode 3 Review

Fran Faces Her Toughest Challenge Yet as the Skeleton Dark Knight Returns
Today’s episode begins with Fran and Shishou preparing themselves to fight against the legendary Skeleton Dark Knight. This was also the same Skeleton Knight that defeated them in the very first episode. This was a great opportunity for Fran to finally take revenge for the defeat, and that’s why the duo prepared themselves for the intense fight ahead. It is apparent right from the beginning that defeating the Skeleton Knight would not be easy, as even Jean realises that by learning its skills. On top of that, the knight also summons his horse, and defeating the creature falls on the shoulders of Urushi.
Things do not look very good for Fran, who struggled with the heavy blows she received from the Skeleton Knight. Even Jean observes that based on the stats, Fran’s opponent is far superior. With magic and skills boosting Fran’s powers, it is still difficult for her to defeat her enemy. A similar situation takes place with Urushi, who also struggles with the skeletal horse.

Fran’s Plan Backfires and the Skeleton Dark Knight Gains a Power Boost
Though they try many things, Fran realises the only way to defeat the Skeleton Knight is to find an opening while she fights. Thankfully, Jean was there to heal Fran right away. After a lot of hard work, Fran finally realises that the skeleton was actually protecting its head. However, this information did not really help that much because its defence was clearly superior to Fran’s. That is when they decide to switch opponents, and Urushi goes to fight the Skeleton Knight.

They do that to attack the mana stone on the skeletal horse that makes it possible for Fran to absorb the stone. However, that was not the only goal of Fran and Shishou. They realised that even though the undead were technically dead, they still retained some emotions. The horse was clearly precious to the Skeleton Knight, and they wanted to hurt him emotionally even if it was for a limited amount of time. However, rather than being depressed, the Skeleton Knight gets a power boost that makes a situation worse.

Fran Pushes Herself to the Limit With a Dangerous New Move
Another fight ensues, and it looks like no one can save Fran. Every blow that Fran gets makes her situation worse, and she finally tells Shishou to level up its sword master arts. They also agree to use a move that they previously decided not to because it was too dangerous. Needless to say, the battle took a massive toll on Fran, and the outcome was really unexpected.
Final Thoughts

The essence of this anime stayed intact till the end because it was not all about battles and fights. Yes, the first half was indeed battle-heavy, with a lot of flashy moves. Yet, towards the end, we do get sections of the lighthearted comedy that this anime is known for. Apart from that, the animation was pretty decent compared to the first two episodes. Yes, CGI was used, but it was not jarring to the eyes. The characters also did not just win or lose their fights without any struggle. Even then, this episode went forward in a pretty predictable trajectory, and it was not something extraordinary.
