A Bold Leap Beyond the Mystery

The third season of this fan-favourite series widens its scope beyond silos and looks at the world before crippling claustrophobia was the only choice. Following two different timelines that highlight different perspectives surrounding the silos and how they came to be, we follow Juliette as she, after losing her memory, finds herself piecing together everything that happened in seasons 1 and 2. Meanwhile, centuries before, journalist Helen Drew and Congressman Daniel Keene find themselves facing irreversible circumstances that have devastating consequences in the future.

With two very interesting timelines to piece together what actually led to people bunkering down in silos, the series paces itself to tell the tale that will leave you hungry as every episode ends. The deeper viewers get into the episodes, the more complex things become as there’s a constant threat to everyone’s life, regardless of the timelines. The scope of the conspiracy is obvious, but it does make viewers want to get a peek behind the curtain to see what decisions led to the present.

As a result, Silo Season 3 isn’t just a survival mystery, but also a thought-provoking exploration of power, sacrifice and humanity’s desperate attempt to control the future. The season lets the characters carry the emotional weight of its many revelations, resulting in a story that is slower but richer.

Ferguson’s Juliette faces the most challenging problem yet, with her trying to get over her memory loss and find out what she had discovered when she ventured into the unknown in the last season. She is given difficult choices that mould her character from an engineer in the silo to an unlikely leader, blurring lines between hope and obsession. Ferguson plays the character effortlessly, highlighting her emotional complexity and determination with ease. The protagonist never loses her emotional core, making the experience more personal than one can imagine.

Bigger Questions, Higher Stakes

As the series draws to an end, the penultimate season focuses more on the consequences than the actions. With the revelations all mostly out of the way in season 2, things start to wrap up as Juliette tries her best to do whatever she can for her fellow humans. She and everyone else must confront what it means to survive and reconsider everything that they have believed till now. We are also forced to ask whether preserving humanity is worth losing individual freedom and the will to live, giving Silo Season 3 a unique opportunity to go deeper than just an adventure show.

The moral dilemmas put forth, especially in a show about dystopian futures, really get under your skin and are one of the most compelling parts of the season. Despite being really slow sometimes, it’s hard not to binge the third season because of the unique challenges that present themselves in front of the characters. Plus, the idea of finally learning about what started it all is far too interesting to not binge!

Production Values Continue to Impress

One of the things that helps Apple TV+ shows stand apart from the crowd is its fantastic production values that leave a great first impression. The cold and unforgiving silo plays a stark contrast to the world that might exist around the inhabitants, reiterating how soulless and repetitive living in such conditions can be. It’s harsh and lifeless, and the series shows that in every frame. Moreover, the atmospheric score adds to the feeling of tense disdain that is present in every character’s life this season. Every environment feels lived in and believable thanks to the fantastic production design that brings the story to life.

Embracing bigger ideas and trying to answer some of the most sought-after questions from the last two seasons, Silo Season 3 is ambitious and leaves you on the edge of your seat throughout. Although there are pacing issues throughout the runtime, the storyline is interesting enough, and the performances are immersive enough to keep moving forward. The layered storytelling is what viewers love about this show, and the third season doesn’t disappoint in that regard.
