BARMM poll preparations 98% complete - DILG

MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said that the national government’s preparations for the upcoming Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections are “98 percent ready.”

“Kaunting-kaunti na lang. Fine-tuning na lang,” Remulla said in a statement on Wednesday.

(We’re so close to completing it. We’re just fine-tuning it.)

“We’ll make sure that nothing happens again, but [we’re] 98 percent [ready]. All the polling precincts are there. All the contingencies are there,” he noted.

On Wednesday, Remulla visited the Police Regional Office – BARMM headquarters in Camp Brig. Gen. Salipada K. Pendatun in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte for a conference with Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on security preparations for the polls.

In the statement, the DILG chief said at least 5,000 police officers will be deployed for the elections, with additional personnel set to be mobilized.

“Confident naman kami sa mangyayari dito,” Remulla said.

(We’re confident with what will happen.)

“I will hold each and every police officer here accountable. If any violence happens in this coming elections, you will be accountable to me and to the Chief PNP. Peace must prevail,” he stressed.

The BARMM election is scheduled on Sept. 14.

Eighty seats in the Bangsamoro Parliament will be contested. /gsg
