MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Sara Duterte’s defense counsel and former Department of Education (DepEd) chief of staff Michael Poa is set to take the witness stand on Wednesday, Sept. 2, as the House prosecution panel continues presenting evidence in the impeachment trial.
- Poa will be called by the prosecution to testify on the DepEd’s use of confidential funds during Duterte’s tenure as education secretary from 2022 to 2024.
- His testimony is expected to focus on the department’s disbursement of P112.5 million in confidential funds, including P15 million reportedly used to help fund Armed Forces of the Philippines Youth Leadership Summits.
- Poa cannot yet be formally designated as a hostile witness. Such a designation may come only after he has been formally presented by the prosecution and takes the stand before the impeachment court.
- Poa’s testimony will be followed by Philippine Statistics Authority Assistant National Statistician Marizza Grande.
