What happens after Mogi dies?
After Mogi dies, Makoto finds a letter stating that Mogi was sorry to him and his brother. Not only that, but Minoru also comes back, and he becomes devastated with the news, because he was the closest to Mogi and almost saw him as a parental figure. Both Makoto and Minoru then go to Fumi’s house and find out that they have already left, that too with the police officer, Koike.
What does Makoto do to locate Fumi?
Makoto gets hold of Mogi’s phone and takes it to Haru. He then uses it to call Fumi to let her know that Mogi has died. This scene was very emotional because Makoto breaks down and pleads with Fumi to tell the truth about who killed his parents. She then answers that it was because of her that Makoto’s parents had died.
What was the truth?
We get a flashback to show that Fumi got into an accident, which was so bad that she needed surgery from overseas doctors. However, as it is not possible, her husband most likely took on illegal means to support her. One day, Makoto’s father came to find out that Sadao was still working. When Fumi again falls sick, Makoto’s father goes to deliver the things that Sadao had to. Here, he finds out about the guns, and after that, Fumi just cuts the call, leaving Makoto in the dark.
How did Minoru deal with this loss?
This becomes a very different and difficult time for Minoru because he loved Mogi the most. On one hand, he could not forgive him for killing his parents, while on the other hand, he knows that Mogi loved him like his own family. He even left the brothers his recipes so that they could get a taste of their mother’s cooking.
Do we finally get the truth on what happened in the past?
Yes, Fumi tells the brothers about everything. The brothers actually find her place and see that her husband is sick and does not remember anything about what he did. She reveals that Makoto’s father confronted Sadao for supplying the guns. He then pleaded with Sadao to turn himself in. That night, as his father took the gun with him, the deal was cancelled, and a fisherman was killed. To control the situation, Koilei was called. In the end, Mogi was blackmailed to kill Makoto and Minoru’s parents.
Did Mogi feel bad about killing Makoto and Minoru’s parents?
We see that Mogi felt absolutely terrible about what he did. He also wanted to turn himself in when Minoru asked him to come to his school as his parent. However, Sadao stopped him, reminding him that it would be very bad for his mother.
What worked and what did not work?
The revelation turned out to be surprisingly simple, and I would have preferred something a bit more complex. Still, I’m not super disappointed by what I saw, and I do feel there’s more to uncover before the full truth comes to light.
