MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has received 98.4 percent of expected election returns (ERs) for the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary elections as of Tuesday morning, with the poll body awaiting ERs from certain precincts in Maluso, Basilan.
According to Comelec’s official website, it has already received 5,129 of the expected 5,212 ERs.

The conduct of the parliamentary elections has not yet concluded as the highly anticipated electoral exercise resumed in Maluso, Basilan after it was delayed on Monday. This came after the Comelec discovered that the ballots in 36 out of 68 precincts in the town were already pre-shaded and compromised.
The poll body then ordered the reprinting of ballots at the National Printing Office in Quezon City to be transported to Zamboanga and to Basilan.

Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia said the ballots arrived in Zamboanga around 6 p.m. on Monday, two hours later than the original estimated arrival of 4 p.m. He added that the ballots arrived in Basilan from Zamboanga around 9:30 p.m. on the same night.
Meanwhile, Comelec’s central server already registered 82.92 percent of voter turnout. This is equivalent to 1,984,331 voters out of the total 2,393,202 registered voters in the region. /jpv
