Bleach TYBW Part 4 Episode 5 (BLEACH 千年血戦篇-禍進譚-) had everyone shocked, confused and absolutely heartbroken by what Orihime had to go through. No one really expected her to showcase such strength in the last season, and it was more than just a pleasant surprise. After what she did last episode, the question of whether she’s actually alive or not came to haunt us. Let’s discuss what could have happened to her.

Is Orihime Dead in Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War?
Most likely, Orihime is indeed dead, but she might not stay that way for long. In this episode, Orihime showcased exceptional physical and mental strength in going against Yhwach, the strongest character in the Bleach universe. Mind you, Orihime is a human, and the fact that she stood in front of him and kept protecting Ichigo while getting hurt herself was a massive feat for her.

There was even a scene where Yhwach kind of became annoyed with her interference in his and Ichigo’s fight. Yet, a healer who had the sweetest personality in the Bleachverse still stood there and defended Ichigo without caring. However, her greatest show of strength was when she ultimately sacrificed her life to protect Ichigo and others. In doing so, she not only took herself out but also ended Yhwach’s existence. The anime deliberately indicated she died to create shock value. However, this is practically impossible because in the future Orihime will actually end up with Ichigo. So, I believe there is something else that will happen.

The Almighty Could Let Yhwach Rewrite Orihime’s Death
To understand how Orihime could be revived, we’ll have to first look at the fight between Uryu and Jugram. Jugram had the Almighty powers with him. This is a ridiculously strong ability that gives Yhwach precognition across infinite futures and possibilities. That means Yhwach can literally perceive all kinds of future happenings. The wielder also gets the power to alter the future timelines as they see fit.

Just before Orihime sacrificed herself, Uryu put the Sanrei Glove on Jugram, which made the Almighty go back to Yhwach. Hence, the theory is that because this happened, Yhwach might be able to alter and change the reality where he gets killed by Orihime. Not only will he be able to revive himself, but by rejecting his own death, he will also reject Orihime’s death. It could also be that what we saw was one of the many possibilities that he saw in real time, and in the next episode, we will see him react before something like this could happen.
Aizen Always Knew Orihime’s Powers Were Far More Dangerous

Even before, when Aizen captured Orihime, he claimed her powers were extremely broken. He knew that Orihime’s abilities were never just meant to heal. It goes beyond such a thing. He said that her powers had to do with the rejection of phenomena; it literally rejects or negates events that happen to an object. Aizen even claimed that it was something above time or space regression, a power that can easily surpass the limits of gods’ established phenomena and even stated that she was someone who encroached on the realms of the gods.
Orihime May Now Be One of the Strongest Characters in Bleach

In the previous episode, she literally showcased what Aizen meant from the very beginning. When she combined all her fairies into one single attack, she kind of became an embodiment of her own powers. Thus, when she unleashes everything on Yhwach, it completely rejects Yhwach’s existence in itself. On top of that, it has always been stated that Orihime can become more powerful depending on the situation.

The stronger the intention is to protect someone, the more lethal her attacks would be. Thus, when she saw Ichigo and Rukia on the verge of death, the hopelessness caused her to gain tremendous determination, and she was even able to sacrifice herself.
