Royal Irrigation Office 12 issued a Chao Phraya water warning to seven provinces today, August 24, telling governors to watch for rising water levels.
The warning, Notice No.3 on the Chao Phraya basin water situation, went to Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Lop Buri. It was issued by the office’s director, Songkran Chalosrithong.
Flow at measuring station C.2 in Mueang district, Nakhon Sawan, was recorded at 936 cubic metres per second running into the Chao Phraya Dam. The water level above the dam stood at 15.94 metres above mean sea level. Flow through the dam itself measured 450 cubic metres per second.
The office expects discharge through the dam to trend to between 500 and 700 cubic metres per second. It said it would hold the level above the dam to no more than 16.50 metres.
Royal Irrigation Office 12 expects riverside water levels to rise by 1 to 1.5 metres downstream of the dam. The stretch runs from Sapphaya district in Chai Nat to Ban Krathum and Hua Wiang subdistricts in Sena district, and Tha Din Daeng subdistrict in Phak Hai district, both in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
The rising water is expected to stay within the riverbanks, the office said. No overflow is predicted at this stage.
A further notice will be issued if flow through the dam exceeds 700 cubic metres per second. Royal Irrigation Office 12 asked agencies and residents along both banks of the Chao Phraya River to monitor the situation closely.
