MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) maintained that no incidents have yet been recorded related to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections.
“We’ve already outlined our plans. We’re now implementing our security operations,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a press briefing in Camp Crame on Monday.
“As of now, there are no recorded election-related incidents in the area of BARMM,” he added.

However, he noted that at least 12 individuals were arrested so far for allegedly violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban amid the polls.
The election period for the BARMM polls began on July 19 and will run until September 29, during which a gun ban is in place.
The BARMM parliamentary elections are set to take place on September 14.
A total of 9,463 law enforcers were deployed for security measures during the polls, according to the PNP.
Of the 9,463-strong deployment, 4,926 were from the Police Regional Office BARMM; 1,221 were from the PNP national support units; 2,000 were from other police regional offices; and 1,316 were from the Special Electoral Board.
Nartatez noted that the PNP’s coordination continues with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other agencies deputized by the Comelec for the BARMM elections. /mr
